ALI NUUMBEMBE v BETHUEL 'TYSON' USHONA

Ali robbed of glory in Namibia

Ali lost out to a controversial points decision at the fight against Bethuel 'Tyson' Ushona at The Windhoek Country Club Resort in Namibia on October 9, 2004 - and his camp are justifiably furious.

Disgraceful refereeing and dishonest judging resulted in a split decision that robbed Ali of the first ever Namibian Welterweight Title, and had his manager, Chad Parker, demanding an immediate rematch.

In a shocking U-turn the home crowd turned on Ali, branding him a deserter for leaving the country to train in the UK.

Despite being by far the better boxer, seriously hurting Ushona in the third round and almost ending the fight in the fourth, the Namibian judge didn't give Ali a single round – remarkable when you consider that up until that point he had never lost one in the whole of his professional career.

And if the scoring was corrupt, then the whole show smacked of a stitch-up with the promoter and organiser also conveniently turning out to be the trainer and manager of Ali's opponent Bethuel 'Tyson' Ushona.
